A Sea Turtle Essay

Sea turtles are amazing creatures. Unlike other turtles they are the only species that live in the ocean. This turtle lives in one of the warmest environments of all turtles. They have a huge variety of dangers to face. A sea turtle has qualities that help it survive the dangers in its warm climate.
The Atlantic and Pacific Ocean have warm waters. In those waters is where sea turtles live. Their lives are in the warm salty waters of both oceans. Sea turtles are occasionally off the northern shores in summer. The waters in the Atlantic and Pacific are 1,000 to 4,000 meters deep. A sea turtle has abilities that let it survive in this environment.
A sea turtle’s body is perfect for the warm oceans of Pacific and Atlantic. For example, they have long powerful flippers that help them paddle away from predators fast. If they can’t swim away they may bite the predator with their sharp jaws to get some time to escape. Sea turtles have a hard shell that also protects them by acting like a suit of armor. Even though their shell doesn't cover their body, it is not heavy and doesn't stop them from swimming fast. In addition, their hind feet act like rudders, making them even harder to catch. Their good eyesight lets them spot their predators and vanish before death. Sea turtles are able to survive in their underwater life.
A sea turtle’s life is only danger. For instance, seabirds, dogs, crabs, scorpions, foxes, insects, and raccoon's love to eat baby turtles when they are going to sea. In fact, they eat so many that out of 100 turtles only two get out to sea! In addition, hurricanes and other natural disasters can break up nests. Sea turtles also have dangers in the sea. They mistake jellyfish for plastic and die of clogged insides. Tiger sharks and big fish eat them in the ocean. Sea turtles also face dangers from humans. They litter and pollute; that kills many turtles. Sea turtles get tangled in fisherman's nets and die. Poachers kill turtles for their meat, eggs and shells to make jewelry. Another danger is caused when turtles come in the way of beach developments. They may get killed while a beach developer is smoothing the sand with a rake. Sea turtles face multiple dangers.
As you can see, sea turtles live in very warm habitats. They have interesting ways to protect themselves from menaces. They have a lot of dangers. Sea turtles have adapted behavioral and physical qualities that allow them to be in this world today. Even now, scientists wonder how female sea turtles go to the exact same beach they were born to hatch their babies; when they were away from that beach for many years.

An Indian Act

March 18th, 2015 was the first year of Global Gala at my school. In this event 20 countries were being represented by school students, parents and teachers. They together showcased the world food, dances, music, and culture. It was an epitome of diversity!

A few of my friends and I were presenting an Indian dance “Radha on the Dance Floor” which depicts the dance by Radha who was a lover of an Indian God named Lord Krishna. We had several meets to learn the dance and practiced our moves with the help of our parents. Finally, we were ready for the big day!

When it was time to leave for the concert, I had dressed up in an Indian dress Lehenga Choli and put on lots of Indian jewelry like bangles, jhumka, maang tikka,  and bindi. I hopped into the car and we drove off. At my school, I tried a couple of different foods and then met my group in front of the stage. After a hour and 30 minutes of acts, including tap dancing, karate and a mime, it was time for my group’s act. Karate was my favorite and tap dancing was my next.

As we got onto the stage, I could tell everyone else in my group was as nervous as me. Throughout the song, I could hear my bangles clicking and clapping for me! I remembered to smile, and heard cheering and whistling from the audience. When the song finished, we bowed down and as we walked off the stage, a parent presented us all $5 gift card to spend at the Red Mango treat shop.

After the performance, I remembered that I had only sampled food from a few countries and missed many others as we had been called to our group early. When I returned, I found the food was all wrapped up. Of course, I was disappointed. At least there’s always next year and I can plan better! I ran to the car, my Lehenga Chunni trailing behind me. Maybe I’ll do an act next year too!

This Global Gala taught me a lot about diversity and how it can benefit each of us and eventually benefit our community. It lets us know people different than us and encourages us to learn more about their culture. It also gives us a chance to experience different things than we are used to. It creates curiosity. The curiosity may lead to something that will benefit the person. I think there should be something in every school that exposes students to diversity, if it’s some sort of Global Gala or not.

The Christmas of Hupuon and Shanna

After Hupuon and Shanna  woke up, they raced downstairs. It was Christmas and they couldn’t wait to see what their presents were. Their parents sleepily trudged downstairs. Come on, Hurry up, we need to get to the living room, shouted Hupuon. He pulled mom down the stairs while Shanna  pulled dad. When their parents were down, Hupuon followed Shanna  to the living room.

They reached the tree, but there were no presents. Aww they yelled and began searching the house. They looked upstairs, no presents. Shanna  searched downstairs; none. Hupuon searched in the playroom, living room, work room, and kitchen; nothing. Lets look outside Shanna  said. They looked behind bushes. They went to the front lawn. How about the backyard? Hupuon called. The siblings went there, found nothing, and decided to ask their neighbors. Not on person answered; they were opening their presents. Finally Hupuon and Shanna  went inside for a snack.

Let’s keep looking, Hupuon said, after their snack was over. They walked around the neighborhood. They hoped to see Santa and ask him where their presents were. They did anything but give up hope. Not long after, their feet were tired. I’m going to get my electric bike from the garage said Hupuon. Then we can continue searching. I’ll get mine too, said Shanna . Suddenly they forgot how tired their legs were. We haven’t searched the garage! Maybe our presents are their! ; they shouted waking up their neighborhood. Angry neighbors were standing on their front porches, while Hupuon and Shanna  were racing to the garage. When they reached, their presents were right in the garage. Let’s bring them upstairs! Hupuon and Shanna  exclaimed happily. They dumped their presents under the Christmas tree.

Right away, Hupuon and Shanna  unwrapped their presents. Shanna  opened a present. The dollhouse I’ve always wanted; I finally have it!; Shanna  screamed! Hupuon opened one of his. The most popular video game in the world! The one I’ve always wanted! ; Hupuon squealed! Shanna  took one next. 15 dolls! My favorite ones! ; Shanna  yelped! Hupuon reached for one with his name on it. A really good lego set! It has 100 people! Wait, this is the biggest set in the world! Thank you Santa! Hupuon hollered into the sky; hoping to reach Santa’s workshop! Shanna  grabbed a rectangular box. A new version of my broken flying helicopter! Only my parents know I love these, Shanna  thought! Wait, mom and dad, did you give me this?! Before mom or dad could answer, Hupuon snached a box. The newest board game! Hupuon screeched before doing his happy dance! Only two boxes were left. Shanna  saw one with her name on it and took it. A popular sweater! Only popular girls wear this! Now I can join their group! Shanna  howled like a wolf! Hupuon reached for the last box and took it. A sweater! There’s a group than only befriends people with this sweater! Now I’m gonna have millions of friends!; Hupuon screamed! Before they could stop themselves, they yelped together, these are the best presents in the world!

Hupuon and Shanna  were finally going to bed. As they brushed their teeth they remembered all the amazing presents they had got. They forgot all the bad days before an the nightmares they had been through. The only thought they still had in their brain was today; the best Christmas ever. They thought one last thought as they put on their new sweaters. This was truly the luckiest day anyone would ever have. Soon they were sound asleep, dreaming of today the day they would never forget, ever, ever,& ever.

My School Writing Competition (I didn't win, but I still like my entry.)

What Makes A Good Mystery?
“Hello everyone!” says my teacher. Get ready to learn what makes a good mystery!
First, describe the detective and the culprit early in the book.

            Michael (detective)           Rody (criminal)

Second, introduce the crime earlier, and then build on it before starting to solve.
“Oh no” Greg says to Michael. I can’t find the money  I had in my locker! Now I won’t be able to buy the luxury car I planned to gift my parents on their 30th anniversary. Will you help me find my money? “Oh, my jewelry from another locker is missing as well!” “Oh no” says Greg, looking in his bag for his dog collar. Now that’s missing as well!
Third, take forever to identify the culprit.
Greg tells Michael, “I searched everyone's houses who could have the money and the other missing items, and nobody had it. Only one house I've missed; Rody’s.” “What?” Michael asks. “Rody’s my best friend.”
Fourth, the detective should not be the criminal.
As I read the ‘A Jigsaw Jones Mystery’ series by James Preller, I found it contained all the five elements of a good mystery. I love James Preller’s books! So do we!
